Pajama & Pancake Day

Today was Pajama Day at Allie’s school. She was so excited to wear her PJ’s to school…she thought it was pretty special. I got to work in the classroom so I thought that was pretty cool too. They had their very own restaurant at school and the kids could eat pancakes all day (really for about an hour). I got to be the pancake chef so it was fun to see all of the little ones eating and interacting. Allie must have had 10 pancakes…thank goodness they were little ones! She likes to eat pancakes at home, but today it was extra special to eat them at school, in her PJ’s that made them so yummy. Allie has a great group of kids in her class and wonderful teachers. They were all in their PJ’s too and the kids loved it. This was my first time working in the class and it was fun to be a fly on the wall during all of the activities that we hear so much about at home. I can’t wait until the next time I get to work in there. We had a fun day! Paige missed a fun day in the classroom but had a great time hanging out with Grandma Ganne!

Potty Dance

Lets all do the potty dance! I have been wanting to post our exciting news but did not want to jinx it by posting too early. Allison Grace Hulbert is finally potty trained. She has been wearing panties for some time now but it was hit or miss if she would stay in them all day. Over Christmas break we just said we are going to put on panties first thing in the morning and see how things go and she has been wearing them everyday since the middle of December. She is very independent and wants to go to the bathroom on her own but sometimes needs help wiping. I was a little nervous about her wearing panties to school the first day back after break since it was all going to be new again and she said "Don't worry mom, I will be fine" and she was! We are still wearing a pull up at night and nap time but other than that we are pretty much potty trained!! Way to go Gracer!

Paige 8 Months Old

It is so weird to say that Paige is 8 months old already. I don't know if it is because I still want her to be an infant or if the time just flies by too fast. She is still a great baby and just really goes with the flow. She loves to watch Allie and has been playing with her on the floor. Paige is not saying anything new at the moment but she loves to screech. She still loves to get kisses and give kisses. When she wakes up in the morning or from a nap she knows she will get a kiss or two or ten...so she starts making kissing noises. It is too cute. She is trying to crawl a little bit. She gets frustrated because she wants to move but just can't quite figure out how to get moving. She turns around and gets up like she is going to crawl then flops on her belly and face and doesn't like it. One of these days she is going to take off! She is doing a better job eating...she loves yogurt and anything she can hold. I just worry about her choking so we have not been too adventurous. The other night at pizza she was smacking her lips so I let her suck on some crust and she loved it. It is so hard to eat in front of her when she is done with her food and still smacking her lips. When she is finished eating or doesn't want something she shakes her head no. Then we say "no, no, no" and she smiles and keeps shaking her head no. We love our sweet girl and are blessed to have her in our lives. We love you PK!

My first 10k

I know, some of you might have to read the title of the post a second time....but today I finished my first 10k race. Back in October there was a flyer in Allie's cubby at pre-school about training for a 1/2 marathon in April. I looked at it and thought..ummm no thanks I am NOT a runner. Then the next week at school I talked to the group leader and she said there were all different levels of runners AND walkers, and that I should come to the big run on Saturday. While talking to her, I thought...ok maybe I can do this. There is a group of women in Woodland called the Pacific Coasters that are all training for a 1/2 marathon, and the leader of the pack is a mom of a boy in Allie's class. She gives us training tips and miles to be covered each week, and then there is usually a big run on Saturday at 6:30am. The first group run I went to seemed a little weird, it was raining, cold, dark and all strangers, but once I finished it was a great experience. The peer pressure made me push myself a little and I kinda got hooked. I still don't really train with a group other than the Saturday morning runs since it is hard to coordinate with Allie's schedule and nursing. But Jack (our dog) is a great teammate. He sees my running shoes and is looking for his leash. I started a 4/1 (walk/run) combo and now do a 3/2 (walk/run) combo so I am making progress. Today Geoff, the girls and Grandma Ganne met me at the finish line. Allie thought it was cool to cross the finish line with me and said "Did you win the race Mom?"...not quite but I finished!! I don't think I will be qualifying for the Boston Marathon anytime soon!

Grandma Ganne is always so good about having her camera on hand...thanks for the pics Grandma Ganne!

Heigh-Ho...Heigh-Ho...

...it's back to work I go....that is what I have been singing this week. On Monday, I officially started back to work. I am still working part-time at Visions and it is a great balance of working and being a mom. However, this week has been a bit crazy getting back into the swing of things after being on maternity leave since June. I am so lucky that I got to stay home with the girls and wish I could be on maternity leave forever but it will be good to be back in the field teaching students again. We are very fortunate that Geoff will be able to take his paternity leave as he needs it and will be able to come home to take care of the girls while I see students. My caseload is mostly in Woodland so I can run home an nurse between meetings if I need to. Our new neighbors Grandma and Paka will also help out. Since I have been up to my eyeballs in "work" stuff, I have not been snapping many pictures, but I am posting this to remind myself to get snapping! We look forward to all good things in 2011!!
