Trick-or-Treat

The girls love dressing up and getting ready for Halloween. Grandma and Pa were in town, so it was fun to trick-or-treat with them for a bit. They love the idea of trick-or-treating but when they see scary masks or spooky houses, they get cold feet.

We started down the street at Fiona's with the gang, but then the girls were itching to go trick-or-treating so we headed out to a few houses on our street.

The girls got spooked by a man dressed in a gorilla suit and were not too excited about the whole trick-or-treating craze after that. So we headed over to Grandma and Paka's street to visit and go to a few houses with Kainoa.

This was the sign Allison made, so we would only have "cute" trick-or-treaters and not scary ones!

The girls ended the night in jammies watching It's a Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown with Grandma and Pa

Halloween Songs

October is a pretty special month at Great Day. There is a lot of tradition and Allison remembers all of it from when she was there. All month long, the kids prepare Halloween songs and do lots of fun activities. At circle time, they get to ride "Witchy Poo" and she is magical. I have never met "Witchy Poo" in person, but Paige was one of the first ones who got to ride her this year. Mrs. B said "when you get home make sure to tell Allison you were the first to ride on Witchy Poo". Paige remembered to tell Allie and when she told her, Allison's eyes lit up and she got a huge smile and hugged Pagie. She said "Wow Paigee, that is really cool to be the first one to ride on Witchy Poo all by yourself". I wish I had pictures. But the girls don't need them, they will be etched in their minds forever. It is times like these that remind us what an excellent preschool the girls are a part of. Allison got to go for 2 years and Paige will too. We can't say enough how blessed we are.

Another favorite at this time of year is reading Big Pumpkin. They listen to it on tape at school, so it gives it an extra bit of excitement. If you have never read it, you should check it out. It is pretty cute. This is Paka and P reading one day. Allison used to "read" this word for word before she could really read. Now instead of memorizing the entire book, she can really read it to Paigee girl!

The final hurrah in October at Great Day, is getting all dressed up and going to a retirement home here in town to sing all of their "famous" Halloween songs. The residents love watching the littles all dressed up and it makes their day to see them.

Paige was not really into standing up in front of the group and singing when we first arrived, so she performed all of the songs right on Mrs. S's lap! It is a little overwhelming since it is unfamiliar surroundings.

But after the first stop, we went into a bigger room and she was quite animated and loved "performing". After singing they all got to talk to the residents. It is great to see such happy souls.

This lady amazed us all....she is 100 years old!!

My mom and dad flew in that morning so were able to see her perform and greet the residents. It was lots of fun!!

Halloween Party

The girls were excited to get all decked out in their costumes and few days early for a classmates Halloween Party. It was fun to see all of the kids dressed up in their costumes. The girls are not at all fans of the scary costumes so they freaked out a couple of times. Once Allie figured out it really was just kids under the masks she was ok with it. Paige on the other hand...not so much. One of the dads was dressed up in a really scary mask and outfit and Paige could not get over it. Finally, we decided it would be best for her to go back to our house with Geoff, and Allie and I stayed at the party. All and all it was a fun day.

And we ended the night with a little pumpkin painting and carving!

Impossible Acres

With all of the craziness of life, we did not get to go to Impossible Acres as many times as we have in years past, but the girls got to go for a long time with Grandma and Paka one day (thanks so much for all of the great pics Grandma Ganne). Then another afternoon during conference week, we met up with a girl in Allie's class and her family. The girls had a great time and the weather was beautiful. It has only taken me 10 years of living in California to figure out that here in Cali, it is always HOT at the pumpkin patch and not rainy and wet like the good ol' days in Oregon at the patch!
