However, this first day of our trip was not quite that easy! We decided to drive to Sunriver (near Bend, Oregon) since there is no easy way to fly. Sunriver is still 4 hours from Portland, so if we flew we would still have a 4 hour drive each way. So we Googled it and saw it was about 7.5 hours and figured we could make it work in the car, but would need to stop on the way up.
The last time we flew to Portland, we had a great view of Crater Lake so the girls (especially Allie) have been bugging to go see Crater Lake. Again, Googled it (thank goodness for Google) and the closest place to stay was in Klamath Falls, Oregon. I have passed through Klamath Falls and thought it would be a great stop. The trip took us 5.5 hours and we would stop and see Crater Lake the next day on our way to Sunriver. K Falls is about an hour and a half from K Falls, then 2 hours to Sunriver.
The girls were troopers, but when we were on the road and had 160 more miles to go Allie said "So whose idea was it to drive to Oregon? Cause flying is way better". At this point, I was thinking exactly the same thing. So they watched another DVD and were ok with the drive and then we were 5 miles from K Falls and stuck in traffic. Allie busts out with "this is the dumbest, boringest drive ever" and Paige agreed with her wise big sis.
Once we got to the hotel and settled the girls were in heaven. Jumping beds, pillow fights and swimming...what more could you ask for? All and all it was a good trip and we made it safe and sound. I don't know that I will stay in K Falls again, but it worked out great for this leg of the trip!
